Chapter 4

Hermione leaned against one of the walls in the main room, still smiling slightly from the kiss earlier. Shame there hadn’t been an opportunity to go much further. The brunette in the mini-skirt who stood at the controls with the black-haired man who dressed like a cosmic hobo threw Hermione a dirty glare every once in a while, but Hermione ignored those. Victoria could hold her breath until she turned blue and died, it didn’t matter. Jamie was hers. She smoothed down her skirt and stepped closer to the right, standing closer to the Scot. He smiled and held out an arm so she could lean against him, which she did without the slightest hesitation. The way she felt around him was unlike the way she’d ever felt with Draco. She felt like she belonged here. Their kiss had only started that feeling. She would never be parted from him. Ever.

She felt so good next to him, like she belonged there. The woman next to him filled Jamie’s whole world, making him only faintly aware the Doctor was speaking out loud.

“…ermen are extremely dangerous, and it looks like they have invaded miss Granger’s school.”

Victoria couldn’t hide a smirk at this.

“What? I’ve never seen any of them. We have our share of ghosts, yes. But metallic men? How did they stay hidden?” Hermione looked puzzled and aggravated. “This can’t be true! Haven’t I gone through enough the past five years, with Harry determined to be the bloody hero every frigging time? It’s not fair!”

“Nevertheless, it is happening, and you have to deal with it,” the Doctor said. “As for their location, that is hard to say. The wards around your school make it hard to pinpoint their exact position. We need some kind of map.”

“Fine, I’ll help then. I know of a map we can use. Are we back at the school yet?” Hermione looked both tired and determined. Jamie looked admiringly at her. ‘What a woman!’

“We are now, yes.”

Hermione stepped through the main door, blinking at the scenery. “We’re on top of the Astronomy-tower. How did it get here?”

“It’s the TARDIS,” Jamie said, who had followed her out. “Is it far to where the map is?”

“It’ll be a bit of a walk. Why?”

“I’m coming with you.” He smiled. “Not leaving you now I’ve found you.”

"And I’m glad for that, but not dressed like that you’re not. You’d be spotted before you can say ‘Golden Snitch’. You need to wear a uniform.” Hermione bit her lip. “Where to get that from?”

“There’s always the Wardrobe,” Jamie said, kissing her. “We can look through that. I’m not looking forward to losing the kilt, but I’ll make amends for the situation.” He led her back inside by the hand, making Victoria even more bug-eyed, and to the Wardrobe. It was a very large, well-lit room with a lot of carapaces and walkways, every bit of space taken up with large racks filled with clothing.  A diligent half-hour-search turned up an appropriate school uniform in Jamie’s size.

“You make it look good,” Hermione said, admiring him. They left the Wardrobe, out the TARDIS and descended the Astronomy-tower. Hermione turned to Jamie just before they were to leave it.

“Now just follow me and don’t look too surprised at what you see. That’ll arouse too many suspicions . Understand?”

“I travelled with the Doctor for a while now. I’ve seen strange.”

“Not like this, trust me. Now let’s go.”

Without too much trouble they arrived at the Gryffindor common room. They did run into Professor Snape in one of the hallways nearest the Fat lady’s portrait, but he, knowing of the relationship between Draco and Hermione, let them, though he did scowl at their backs. ‘Hermione running around with some boy from Gryffindor? Won’t Draco be surprised to hear that…’With that, Snape continued on his rounds.

“That was close,” Jamie whispered afterwards.

“Nah, he knows me.” Hermione shrugged.

“Does he now?” A note of jealousy. Hermione ignored it.

Thankfully the common room was quite empty, courtesy of the Ravenclaw-Hufflepuff Quidditch-match going on. Either one of them winning meant a threat for Gryffindor’s lead-position, who were therefore anxious to see who they’d be playing against in the final. Slytherin was so far behind in points it wasn’t even funny anymore, courtesy of Malfoy Sr. not being able to finance the team anymore.

Hermione led the way up the stairs to the boys’ dormitories, and opened to the door to Harry’s room which he shared with Ron, Dean, Seamus, and Neville. Trevor the toad sat forlornly on the bed. “Did he forget about you again?” Hermione cooed to it. Trevor croaked, once. Hermione marched over to one of the trunks standing in the room, opened it and began to rummage through it. Finally she pulled out a tattered piece of parchment. “Got it!”

“Are you sure? It looks blank to me,” Jamie said, quizzically.

Hermione smiled. “Oh ye of little faith.” She pulled out her wand, tapped the parchment with it and said “I solemnly swear I’m up to no good.” Much to Jamie’s amazement, the parchment suddenly displayed corridors inked in black, with black dots moving through them. Hermione peered at it. “McCrimmon? That’s you, I take it.”

“Aye, it is. Where does it say that?”

She pointed at the boys’ dormitory, where there were currently two dots, one labelled ‘Hermione Granger’, and one ‘Jamie McCrimmon’. “Right there, see?”

“Oh aye, I see now. Whose it this? This is not your room.”

Hermione shrugged. “It’s Harry’s, but he won’t mind. Ah, there it is. He can’t keep his stuff neat if his life depended on it..” She pulled out something silvery and cloak-like. “We’ll also borrow this, his Invisibility-cloak. It’ll be all right,” she said at Jamie’s uncertain looks. “He owes me for the last five years.”

Jamie furrowed his brows, but said nothing. He didn’t know this Harry, but apparently his girlfriend had a lot of resentment towards him, and Jamie decided to stay out of it. “Any sign of those Cybermen?” he asked instead.

“Can’t find them yet, give me another minute.” She fumbled with her wand while she kept on searching. “There they are! Oh no.” She blanched.

“What is it love? Tell me, please.” He put an arm around her and pulled her shaking form close to him.

“They’re in the Room of Requirement. It’s positively swarming with them. We’ll never be able to get to them in there.”

“Why not?”

“The Room only opens when you really need it to. We can never want the same things as those robots, it’s impossible. What are we going to do?”

“Go back and tell the Doctor. He’ll know.”

They left the dorm, having tucked both cloak and map tightly under Jamie’s arm. He still held Hermione close to him with his other arm.

“Hermione! Where have you been? You were supposed to meet Harry and me at the pitch before the game started, and it’s now halfway through.!” A lanky red-headed boy stood in the common room, his freckled face looking accusing. “And who’s that then? Draco not enough for you?”

‘Draco?’ Jamie thought to himself.

“Ronald Bilius Weasley, you are not the boss of me. And I never promised anything to you. You and Harry just assumed I was going to heed your every beck and call.” Hermione looked furious.

"You know you’re not supposed to walk the hallways alone with this recent spate of disappearings going on,” Ron spat.

“That’s something you came up with to keep me away from Draco and near you, not an official school-rule. For the last time Ron, I will not go out with you!”

“Then I won’t let you go until you tell me who Sunny Jim there is. He looks like a right shifty bugger.” Ron crossed his arms and looked defiant, standing in front of the portrait-hole.

Jamie meanwhile was getting angry at the way this Ron was talking to Hermione. “Oi, don’t treat her like that! Show some respect, or I’ll teach you how to.”

Ron just smirked. “Bring it on, mate.”

“Men! Jamie, keep out, I can take care of him.” She kissed Jamie on the cheek, causing Ron to go bright-red from rage. She then turned to the redhead. “Petrificus Totalus!”

Ron froze and fell to the floor, completely frozen, catching a nice ‘Clunk!’ on the head from falling on the fireside-table. Hermione looked smug as she and Jamie left the room via the now easily-reached portrait-hole.
