Chapter 2

“Mauve? What’s that then Doctor?” Jamie asked.

“Universally recognised colour for danger.”

“I thought that was red,” Victoria piped up. She’d changed from her proper Victorian clothes into something called a mini-skirt, and with having put that on, seemed to have abandoned her upbringing. Frankly Jamie was already getting fed up with her flirting. He didn’t want a girl who threw herself at every man in sight. But for all her supposed smarts, Victoria didn’t seem to understand that.

“That's just humans. By everyone else's standards, red's camp,” the Doctor said, interrupting Jamie’s thoughts. “Out here, it’s mauve. Hold on tight, it’s going to be a bumpy landing!”

Victoria blanched, and clung to Jamie’s arm, hugging him closer to her body than he would have liked.

“Victoria…” he started in a warning tone of voice.

“Oooh, I’m so scared. Hold me,” she simpered.

Before he could reply, the TARDIS landed with a sickening thud.

“We’re here. Now let’s be careful out there.” The Doctor straightened his coat, ran a hand through his hair, and opened the door. Still holding his arm, Victoria dragged Jamie up from the floor where they’d landed in a tangled heap, much to Victoria’s apparent pleasure, and out along with her. The moment Jamie set foot on the slab-floor outside of the blue police-box, something resonated deep inside, and it spoke of home.

“We’re in  Scotland!” he blurted out, earning him a glare from Victoria.

”Why is that so important?” she demanded.

“This kilt isn’t just for show. I’m from around here,” he snapped at her.

“Quiet you two. Jamie’s quite correct: we are in Scotland, though not quite the country he remembers. Hello, what is that?” The Doctor pointed to a dark form lying not a hundred metres from the trio.

“I’ll go see,” Jamie said. With that, he disengaged his arm from Victoria’s grip, shaking it make the blood flow again as he walked over to the dark form.

“Be careful,” Victoria squeaked, but he didn’t listen to her as he kneeled next to the dark form.

Sprawled on her back there was a girl, ‘No, a woman,’ he thought to himself, lying on the floor. Her brown hair lay around her head, forming a sort of halo. Her eyes were closed, her face looking peaceful and pensive. She was clad in a black robe which couldn’t hide the form of the slim body underneath. Lying near one of her hands, as if it had tumbled out of it, was an hourglass. Also nearby was a book bag, crammed to bursting. Her chest was moving. He was glad. She was too beautiful to die already.

“What is it?” Victoria called, interrupting his silent admiration of the still form.

“It’s a woman,” Jamie replied. “And it seems she’s still alive. She’s out like a light.”

“Bring her here then. There’s danger afoot, and she can’t be left here. Hurry up boy,” the Doctor admonished.

Listening to the Doctor, Jamie shoved the hourglass into his pocket, swung the book bag over one shoulder since after all she might want it, staggering a bit under its weight, and then carefully cradled the woman in his arms. She was warm and smiled a bit at the touch. Carefully he carried her to the TARDIS, the Doctor and a miffed-looking Victoria following them.

Just then a blond boy skidded around the corner, his cries of “Hermione! Get back here now!” lost in the sound of the TARDIS leaving the school-hallway. Draco stamped his foot as he saw the TARDIS disappear. When that girl came back, she would pay for running out on him. No woman would do that to Draco, the Slytherin Prince and escape unscathed. He’d teach her a lesson she’d never forget. He turned to go to the Slytherin common room, when he saw something gleam in one of the adjoining hallways. It was too shiny to be one of the harnesses.  Stepping closer to the shiny object, the last thing Draco head was “You will be upgraded.” Everything went dark after that. For one fleeting moment he woke up to screaming and intense pain before losing himself forever.
