I am not pleased. New 52 Justice League International got cancelled. When did DC decide that? Back in May. When did I find out? Today, and only because I went looking for the information. Argh!

Admittedly, the Annual did not fill me with hope about the future of the team. (Hint: they completely fell apart.) I did not expect the series to just stop. What will happen to Booster? (Obsessed? No. Fangirl? Yes.)

On a more cheerful note: there's a new Young Avengers-series starting January next year. I'm stoked about that!

I can't get Young Avengers Presents in trade for love nor money (unless I want to pay 5 times RRP to canny sellers on Amazon), but my FLCS had all individual issues. And it was only a six-issue miniseries to begin with. Ah well, at least I can read them now. It also looks like I got about everything Young Avengers-related. Go me!

So, DC-comics has hired a Dutch artist to draw Batman for them. First Dutch person to work for DC, that's good news.

He's also going to take over the current run of Birds of Prey. Who the newspaper described as 'Batman's female ladyfriends'. Which caused me to somewhat overreact, because have you, the writer of said article, ever read a single issue of Birds? No? That's what I thought.

The Birds are a group of superheroines put together by Barbara Gordon*, to do her legwork for her. They are awesome, kick-ass women being awesome and kick-ass. You could argue that through Barbara they are related to Batman, but he has no say about them whatsofuckingever.

It also makes it sound like of course women wouldn't go out and be awesome if there wasn't a man somewhere behind them to tell them to go forth and be excellent. It's bad enough that Barbara becoming Oracle because she wanted to do so got retconned into Batman telling Barbara to become Oracle. It's disingenuous to define them through their relationship to a man.

Gah, newspapers.

*Barbara Gordon was Batgirl until she got shot by the Joker. She survived, but was paralysed from the waist down. She decided to become Oracle, a big information-broker in the DC-universe, with ties to the Justice League and other groups.

Oh look, it's almost November. What's a girl to do? Well, NaNo, of course. I finally had a plot-idea, and that's good. I didn't participate last year. Hell, I barely wrote the past twelve months. We'll have to see how things go.

After all, there's no new White Collar until next year anyway. Also, Lost Girl won't be back until next week. And no Dr Who until Christmas. Or Sherlock until the new year. All of these shows own time-shares in my heart, apart from DW, which has a permanent apartment.

So...

Why is there no Blue Beetle in the reboot-JLI? Almost everyone else is there, just no Beetle. I know, Jaime's getting his own series again, and good on him. I'll admit I haven't read his old series, but I've seen enough appearances by the kid to like him, so him getting more attention is not a bad thing.

Also, is Ted Kord still dead in the reboot? Does Infinite Crisis still count as canon in the reboot? We can have two Blue Beetles, since Ted never seriously used the scarab. If he is still dead, then what of Booster? One of the best things about him was his friendship with Ted, and vice versa. I like those two together, and I feel like someone's kicking my heart every time it gets mentioned Ted's dead. On that note, Justice League: Generation Lost: Read more... )

And why no Booster-series? I'm a bit more miffed about this. Most of the stuff I've read so far is Booster, either solo or his appearing in other series, and I would call myself a fan of his. So why no solo-series? Are we going to lose the character-development he's had since his first appearance? That would be a crime.

On the whole, I am not sure what to think about the reboot. Easy for me to say, I know. I've not been in this hobby for all that long, and what I am reading or have read (JLI, Booster Gold, Birds of Prey, Infinite Crisis) is a couple of years old at the very least. Ah well, at least I'll still be able to buy the older stuff, so if the reboot doesn't pan out, I'll still be happy.

If the reboot doesn't pan out, then how is DC going to go back to the 'old' ways? Retcon and pretend the reboot never happened?

Slightly less than a week-and-a-half until the Dr Who Christmas-special. Yay!

New series not until Spring 2011. Boo! And the second half of that not until Autumn 2011. Boo!

New season of Sherlock inbetween new series of Dr Who. Yay!

Martin Freeman to play Bilbo in The Hobbit. Yay!

Let's hope this doesn't wreak havoc with possibly shooting a third season of Sherlock. Because I hate when established characters sudden;y get played by new actors. And you can't you have Sherlock without his Boswell blogger.

According to IMDB, which I trust about as far as I can spit against the wind when it comes to preproduction-news, David Tennant is also to be in The Hobbit. If only, I'd die of geeky glee.

Fairly ascertained rumours that Stephen Fry is going to play Mycroft in the second Sherlock Holmes-movie, along with RDJ (of course) and Jude Law. Out in December 2011. Too long.

I like to pretend I'm working for Moist. It helps make the work bearable, since it's not very demanding on the imagination and rather monotonous. (And rather backbreaking at times.)

Well then...

Wizards of the Coast is a games-company. For one they publish Dungeons and Dragons, and also Magic: The Gathering. I play both, and sometimes I think that makes me rather unique, given the fact that I seem to lack a penis. ;) Both hobbies are very dominated by men. And nerdy men at that, but who doesn't love those? ;)

Over the past couple of months, Magic-Research and Development put on a search for new card-designer. Well, they offered a six-month internship, but whatever, it's the chance to work at something you love, so who wouldn't go for it? (I wouldn't, but that's more to do with the fact that I still know jackshit about the game, although I am learning.)

This past week, the winner of The Great Designer Search [TGDS] was announced. [TGDS] WINNER Announced At Party Last Night over on the M:TG Salvation-boards, (which are not connected to the official Wizboards at all). Paigoddess won. NorrYtt and Kraj, who were the other finalists, also chime in on this thread. Pai is female.

So, was the winner hired soley beacuse she was a woman? Was she hired to appeal to the minor female fanbase this hobby has? I admit, I squealed a bit when I heard that she had won, because what I saw of her designs were decent and just, you know, having a woman on board there might not be bad. I just hope she was not hired based purely on gender, and I doubt she was. R&D would just shoot itself in the foot with that decision.
Will the rest of the nerds working in R&D be able to stop from hitting on her? They might be married, but you know what happens when nerds see a woman...(Yeah, I've taken to having a baseball-bat at my side when I go out with Mel to games at his friends'... A clue. No.)
Oh wait, no. Pai used to be a man. Yes, she is transgendered. She just needs more surgery so she can be an attractive woman. *insert my brain finally breaking.*

What is WRONG with these people? Mel says it's jealousy in part, because she won, and not them. Maybe he's right. It does my head in, seeing them go on about her gender, and basing her solely on tht. Way to go to prove that normal adults can play this game too, guys. Cheers.

I sometimes wonder why I'm still here with people like that around. Though luckily I have not run into them here, or anywhere I have played. Which is good, because I would get very pissed off at them. Even just seeing them on the internet does my head in.

Ahh...

Proof that you don't need Fandom_Wank for stupidity...

Akroma does so rule! And you are idiots for not seeing that!

It's on the Wizards-messageboards, and over a year old. An oldie but a goodie. Watch the OP claim he played against the Top Ten, though he can't remember their names. Watch him post a rather sucky deck-list. (I have to say, I can't see much wrong with that deck, but I myself am still rather new to the game, so yeah.)

Oh my gods. Where is Zeus when you need him to smite crap like this? This is not his son. This can't be his son.

On top of mucking with the mythology (Tiresias as the Oracle of Delphi? And I'm Queen of Spain.) it's just bad acting, unlikable characters, and a real shite movie.

Even Sean Astin can't save this piece of drek.

I need a drink. And the tv-series with Kevin Sorbo. Those also mucked with the mythology, but at least that one was meant to be humourous.
