Have a link: Static, by [livejournal.com profile] mcity. Rose Potter. I know, I know. But I like reading how she's getting her just desserts.

Have another: So We Beat On, by Hyde of [livejournal.com profile] das_mervin. Harry/Hermione, but not like I ranted about before.

Avantaril, Amarisuisme! by [livejournal.com profile] farmercuerden. LotR, Dwarves and Elves. I found it giggleworthy. See also Leggo my Leggo!, very short, very sweet (in gleeful snerking terms).

These, and the last fic, are all from the Canon100: An End To Nicknames by melandry. Harry Potter, Marauder-era. Why you shouldn't shorten Sirius' name. Ever.

Battle, by Hyde and [livejournal.com profile] das_mervin. (Second one down.) Rose Potter meets someone quite unexpected...

Reality Check, by Hyde and [livejournal.com profile] das_mervin, again. (Fourth one down.) More Rose (yes, I hate the stupid nekkid bint) getting her comeuppance.

Small confession: I'd rather have the bickering relationship of Ron/Hermione than the perfect serene one of Harry/Hermione. At least the first one has more life in it. And it's bickering, not lobbing deaththreats at each other. How do you get that Ron's going to grow up to be an abusive little shit who's going to lock Hermione in the kitchen and force her to have a whole herde of kids and nothing else? Did we even read the same books? The ones where Hermione is perfectly capable of taking care of herself, and has a rather quick temper at times (cue canaries, again)? Besides, with Harry's temper and CAPSLOCK OF ANGST and Hermione's swottishness and her almost slavish devotion to learning and books and schedules who's to say that H/Hr will be so peaceful? They drive each other up the wall when Ron's not there to balance them out.

My biggest peeve with all this? They are teenagers. There are high school relationships that survive graduation and college and the rest of life, but not all do. I'd wager most of them don't. So stop making this all to be about the One True LoveTM. People change at that age. Life happens. Not all relationships survive that. Please remember that.

I'm not saying that H/Hr will never happen. Maybe it will, later on. Maybe not. Let your fantasy run wild, especially since Rowling has said that she won't write anymore HP after Book Seven. I'm just saying that in the span of the books it won't happen. Rowling said so.

This is not so much aimed at fanfic, though I do have a tendency to skip any that has H/Hr as a pairing. Personal preference and all that, and they usually make it to mean 'We're so in love and nothing bad can ever happen to us'-cavity-inducing-mush. This is about the rabid insane shippers, who keep 'interpreting the texts from the right perspective', as long as it means that their ship is the only one that will sail.

Inspired by this sporking, which features an Irish shoplady capable of giving the One Ring away without any trouble on her side, the natural thought is that she's someone else. Namely Carrot, since you need someone unflappable and in possession of an iron will. And he could withstand the Gonne.

It doesn't seem Carrot's style however, to give away such a piece that's clearly evil. He'd go off to destroy it himself in an instant. Quote [livejournal.com profile] mellinore: 'Carrot at the Cracks of Doom[.] He'd lob the Ring then save Gollum from jumping in after it[.]' That's what he'd do.

*thunk!*

So, I'm writing a PPC, about a story which has Legolas as a girl, and out of morbid curiosity, I take a look at what else this author has written.

'Silencing Mike'.

...

Silencing Mike?! The Monty Python gangrape-story? Oh my sweet Eru!

Get it off, get it off, I got RPS-cooties all over me.

Some rather nice crack!HP-fanfic, starring Draco and Narcissa. A Suitable Girl. (Marriage-law, but not quite what you'd expect.) Some profanity. Draco has to get married, and the candidates are rather interesting.

Oh hee, poetic justice for CC.

Also, the Bad Sex-week on HMS STFU is slowly destroying my sanity. Even more than what badfic usually does to it.

Maybe it's just the depression rearing its ugly head, but the whole CC-affair, and the resulting find that Heidi did the same thing make [personal profile] bookish_dragon extremely reluctant to write anything beyond posts in this blog. And I hate that. I mean, I want to, but I have enough of a motivation-problem as is without the aforementioned scandals.

Why this affects me so, I don't know. Some unconcious fear that I will not be good enough and thus have to resort to plagiarizing things myself, I guess. And I know this is just a crap thought, since I can be original without cribbing other people's stuff (not counting trying to write PPC-missions, since those include by definition other people's work).

Fandom does my head in sometimes.

Caught the last part of a rerun of J.A.G yesterday-evening. Bud is cute. ^.^

He returned some Shakespeare and then mentioned that they were so alike to various Star Trek-eps and that he was writing fanfiction based on Richard III that he called Picard III. Hee, mention of Star Trek in a non-mocking way.

Dear fantwunts,

Nudists. At Hogwarts. A big old honking castle, full of updrafts. In Scotland. Are you out of your freaking little minds? Do you hate your characters so much that you want them to die of pneumonia? Also: Hogwarts? British boarding school, meaning it has a strict dresscode. No, getting yourself adopted by one of the teachers does not mean you get to circumvent this code. Stop trying to get that professor nekkid too.

I've nothing against nudists, but there's a time and a place for everything, and Hogwarts is neither. And can the hypocrisy. Don't have Hermione tut disapprovingly at the ten-year-old who's dressing like a cheap hooker, but praise the same tendency in the twelve-year-old. Given that she's adopted both of them, go stick your head in a pig.

Furthermore fantwunt 2, cut it out with the gift-talk. Girls these days are not just valuable because they're virgins. And for the love of Merlin, Nimue and all Four Founders, stop having the teenaged kids express such an interest in their parents' lovelife! It's quite sickening. So's the sex, by the way.

No love, since you don't know what it is

Dear fanwriter,

You don't like the Weasleys? Fine by me, you're not obligated to. Personally, I love them. However, this does not mean that Harry hates them too. They're his family. He loves them. So please to not be demonizing them, and making our hero casually shrug off the demise of the entire fucking family as if it were nothing more than a fly in his milk (though given Book 5-Harry, that last would also have sent him into a screaming-fit).

And for the love of Merlin, stop it with the 'The only reason Harry went out with Ginny is because she doped him with a lovepotion!' I don't remember Ginny being a raging slut who needs to dupe people into dating her.

Red-haired love,

Baby, I'm No Good, written by polygamouse on HMS STFU. Short and sweet, it portrays Nine and Rose's reactions to fics written about them.

Dear fanwriter,

Please repeat after me: fanon is not the same as canon.

Fanon is not the same as canon.

Making Thranduil an evil child-beating Elf just because you saw other people writing him this way doesn't mean it's right. Don't make me send Legolas after you to kick your arse. I dare you to find one passage in the books where it's stated Thranduil beat his children. You won't find it. Why? Because Elves don't do this. Get out of my fandom.

No frigging love,

Yattara.

There's some weird people out there...Bible fanfic of the worst kind. Those who read the PPC-board have already seen this.

I told my fiancé about it. He laughed about the silliness of the premise. Then he absolutely refused to read it. I can't blame him. I'm not a Christian myself, but I still felt icky after having read it.

Edit: the Department of WTF took on the task of PPCing this. Kudos to them.

I have a deep and abiding love for good writing. I adore reading, and even though being on the 'Net has cut into my reading habits something fierce, I still can't give it up. I was the kid who spent all her free time in the school-library. I have a wish to write myself, but...

I only recently got into the whole fanfic-thing, by following a link on a message-board to [personal profile] deleterius, and this has quite killed that wish. Seeing some of the things that pass for fiction that appear in the Pit just make my brain melt. I know, it says a lot about my self-esteem that I let some illiterate teenager get to me like this, but I never said I was the most confident person alive. Luckily, some of my sanity got saved by also running into respectively OFUM, and the original PPC-series. But still, but still, I'm quite unsure as to how to go about writing. (Apart from just doing it, of course, but I'm also quite lazy.)

If there was a point to this, I wouldn't know. I'm just rambling, obviously.

My brain, it hurts. Too much reading through fanfic on [livejournal.com profile] deleterius. Where's the brain bleach when you need it?
