has won. I am currently at 51,193 words. In proper NaNo-tradition (f0r me), the story is far from finished.

Also, why do I keep stumbling over these raging misogynistic assholes in my stories?

I think I need to set something on fire. In the story, that is. Maybe then something will happen.

26K words, and I feel like I am writing myself into a corner. Well, that's not entirely correct. I just don't know where the story is supposed to go from here. For a detective-story there's very little detecting going on, which is partly because I haven't the foggiest what's actually supposed to happen.

Ah, the joys of writing in a genre you don't read that much.

This house, with its grief and a broken-down brother, wasn't helping. I was feeling suffocated, and I had only been here for about half a day. Sleep wasn't coming easily to me that night, and I imagined Jake found it hard as well.

“That's officer Barnes to you. Come this way. The sooner we get this over with, the sooner you can walk away. Again.” She turned and led the way to the bull-pen. I got a lot of looks, ranging from curious to somewhat hostile.

My MMC has just run into xenophobia he hadn't realised existed in his village.

"How should I know?" [the baker] said. "I don't pretend to know how those people think."

"The same way we do," Jaden said, and left the shop. He could feel the baker staring at him as he left.

Dear Jaden.

Where the everlasting fuck did you come from? I never meant for Cyna to have a brother. Sure, I needed a reason to have her come back to her home-town, but an estranged sibling was not what I'd had in mind.

I can't tell you how much you may have scuppered what plot I had come up with before you showed up.

Exasperatedly, Bookish Dragon

My FMC is having a fight with her estranged brother.

"Most of you took his side, regardless of who I was. I didn't need that. I still don't need that."

I still haven't watched the Dr Who I taped last week (I was out Saturday-evening). On the whole, I am not that enamoured with the stories. They're missing something, but I can't put my finger on what, exactly, and that bugs me.
